My Best Friend

22/365 Days of Happiness : Lessons on Friendships

Dear Yuki,

I used to be your bestfriend. We had a pact, remember?

Now that you have found your wings, you are free. I can't choose your friends, I never had.

I care for you and I wish to share with you a few lessons in friendships.

Your best friend may have other friends too; and you should feel OK about it. You should have other best friends, too.

Friends should never feel like an obligation. Life is hard enough, don’t be a high maintenance friend. Love them well and love them often and show up when it matters.

Life gets busy. We may fail to constantly communicate, but let this not breed insecurity but rather an excitement  of getting connected again. Pick up where you left off, no guilt or hesitation.

We are all imperfect people. Your friends will disappoint you. Forgive them even before they ask. Apologize when you screw up, because you will. Friends help us embrace each other's imperfections.

Friends  sit with you if the moment calls for sitting, and walk with you when you can move forward again. Don’t just say you’re going to pray for them, actually pray, even when they don't ask for it. You have been placed in each others lives with great purpose. Cherish each other.

Yuki, the constant joy in my life. I pray you find joy in friendships.

Love,

Mama
