When my colleague was sharing her intention of renting a place near work instead of commuting daily, I recalled how awkward I felt when I had to fill out a form that asked for home ownership. I am over forty and I am living with my Nanay. Why not?
Living with parents brings some little discomforts like no matter how old you get, you will likely be treated as a child and you get unsolicited advice for almost everything; but hey, the benefits outshine these trivial issues.
One of the biggest advantages of living with Nanay is that I do not have to worry about what to eat. There is always something ready on the table before I leave for work. (At work, Manang Dalia takes care of me.) I don't have to wash the dishes and I don't have to do the laundry (my nieces are helpful and industrious A+).
There are a lot of curve balls that life throws every now and then to those who are living on their own and by living with my parents, I have been shielded from some of the hardships life has to offer. I don't mind really. I can learn the tough lessons some other ways. Besides, Nanay is nearly 75 years old; she probably needs me more than I need her. So I am staying.
